| The Grolier's defines metaphysics as
'that area of philosophy which concerns itself with the nature and
structure of reality.' The dictionary defines metaphysics as 'a
philosophical doctrine that defines all things are part of each other
and searches to discover first cause principals.'
The subject began with ancient Greek philosophers
who were concerned with whether reality was reducible to a single
underlying substance. The word meta means higher or beyond and the
word metaphysics was coined by Aristotle. In his work 'Metaphysics',
he looks at the underlying meaning and structure of the world. As
a study of life beyond physics, it is a philosophy of physics that
tries to solve the questions that material sciences cannot.
Spiritual thinkers from ancient civilizations and
history have throughout contributed to this belief system that covers
a broad spectrum of ideas and concepts. Though religions profess
to be metaphysical in nature, it is only a doctrine that underlines
many religions - it mostly skirts philosophy, sciences and literature.
It systematically investigates the nature of first causes, or principles
of all existence, ultimate reality, knowledge, being and the nature
of the universe. It asks: What are space and time? What is a thing
and how does it differ from an idea? Are humans free to decide their
fate? Is there a first cause that has made everything and put it
in motion? And much much more.
Based on the philosophical doctrine that all things
are a part of one main source - it believes that each thing has
an independent function and is dependent on every other thing. Thus
all continuously contribute to the one main source. This belief
system interprets and understands life through a physical, mental,
emotional and spiritual plane.
Through this site, I look at a few forces that are
metaphysical in their properties and attempt to guide you through
them.
