| Pronounced 'phung schway' literally means '
wind water' and is part of an ancient Chinese philosophy of nature
(geomancy) - believed to have derived from Vaasthu Shastra
and carried to China from India. It is concerned with understanding
the relationships between nature and ourselves so that we might live
in optimised harmony within our environment. The notion being that
we live with nature rather than against nature and that our lives
are affected by our physical and emotional environ. Though it might
be seemingly steeped in esoteric rules, it contains logical sense
comprehensible by anyone.
Four factors are taken into consideration in this
science of geomancy -
1. Chi or 'the breathe of life' - the omnipresent consciousness
2. The direction
3. The five elements - fire, water, wood, metal & earth
4. The power of water in relation to the property
Feng Shui as a mystical combination of philosophical,
religious, astrological, cosmological, mathematical and geographical
concepts, recognises geomagnetic energy or QI as unstable and ever
changeing while the forces as Yang or male (positive) and Yin or
female (negative) - a balance of both makes available cosmic energy.
